SOLO DIVISION - MR. & MISS STARMAKER- Regional Friday Night Solo Competition
This is open to all soloists who want to compete for the title of Mr. or Miss National StarMaker. This title is open to Camp DanceAdventure, Junior, Teen and Senior age divisions. The regional winners of the Mr./Miss StarMaker Competition will be eligible to compete at finals. The winners of StarMaker of the Year in Myrtle Beach Finals will receive a trophy and a one year scholarship to attend all DanceMaker Conventions in 2009-10!
Age Divisions
Solo age divisions are the same as the StarMaker Competition (defined in next section) and students will compete in the age division corresponding to their age at the time of regional competition. Winners will compete at nationals in the age division in which they won.
Subjects
Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop or Variety. A soloist may enter in more than one subject (and compete against themselves)
unless the Solo StarMaker competition is sold out.
Scores and Awards
All participants will receive a medallion. Only the one performer with the highest points from each age division for both male and female will receive a trophy. A total of eight winners are possible in each city – one male and one female from each of the four age divisions. Second and third place winners will be announced. The first, second and third place winners (with a minimum of 80 points) will qualify for Nationals. Trophies for Mr.and Miss Camp DanceAdventure, Junior, Teen and Senior soloists will be presented on Sunday afternoon at the 2:30 Wrap It/Awards Ceremony.

Fees
Each solo per performance $75 each ($80 after cut-off*)

Payment and registration must be received by cut-off date or late fees will apply.
No competition entries will be accepted after 2 Fridays (15 days) before convention date…NO EXCEPTIONS!
There are NO REFUNDS…NO EXCEPTIONS.

No solo shall be longer than 2:45 minutes. A 5 pt. deduction will be taken if time limit is exceeded.

Music for Solos must be turned in on Friday at registration between 5 - 6 pm.
STARMAKER COMPETITION - StarMaker Regional Saturday Night Competition
Age Divisions
1. Camp DanceAdventure - 3 - 5 years olds
2. Junior - 6 to 10 year olds
3. Teen - 11 to 14 year olds
4. Senior - 15 and older
Age of group is determined by adding students’ ages together (as of date of competition) and dividing by the number of students in the routine. Disregard decimal points.

6. Variety (any combination of subjects or any routine containing more than 3 acro/gymnastic passes)
Judges’ Rights
Judges may determine that a routine is entered incorrectly and will move it to the correct subject without penalty. Judges’ decisions are FINAL.
Scores
1st place 90 to 100 points
2nd place 80 to 89 points
3rd place 70 to 79 points
Judging Criteria
Scores are based on a possible 100 points:
Technique 40 points
Choreography 20 points
Stage presence/personality 20 points
Overall impact 20 points
Fees/Entry Submissions
Solo $75 per dancer ($80 after cut-off*)
Duo/Trio $35 per dancer ($40 after cut-off*)
Group (4-8 dancers) $30 per dancer ($35 after cut-off*)
Line (9-16 dancers) $22 per dancer ($25 after cut-off*)
Production (17 or more) $20 per dancer ($23 after cut-off*)
In order to benefit from the discounted rates, all entries for competition must be RECEIVED by DanceMakers and PAID FOR by the cut-off date (*Please refer to the DISCOUNT CUT-OFF DATE in tour date section.) After that deadline, additional fees will apply. No competition entries will be accepted after 2 Fridays (15 days) before the convention date. Competition will be closed when we reach our maximum capacity of numbers, which may happen before cut-off date. Competing dancers must be registered at DanceMakers Convention as a student or assistant to be eligible to perform in the StarMakers or Solo Competition. No teachers or full time assistants or salaried assistants are permitted to compete.
Performance Time Limits
• No Duo-Trio shall be longer than 2:45 minutes
• No Group or Line shall be longer than 3:00 minutes
• No Production shall be longer than 6:00 minutes
A 5 pt. deduction will be taken if time limit is exceeded.
Music Requirements
All music for the competition must be recorded on one master CD and one back up CD. One CD per studio is preferred. Routines on each CD may be in any order. Each CD must be labeled with name of studio, teacher name, title and number of each track. Each CD must be in its own individual jewel case.
Music Submission Deadlines
Music must be turned in for Saturday Competition at registration 9 - 11 am.
General Rules
• No use of fire.
• No singing by contestants.
• Lip-Syncing and talking are permitted.
• No video cameras or recording of any type are permitted during performances.
Still photo cameras are acceptable.
• General props/ set pieces are permitted, but must be moved on and off within 30 seconds or a 5 pt. deduction will apply.
• All contestants must wear DMI wristbands while competing or routine will be disqualified.
• Dancers may compete in more than one number. Any dancer may compete against themselves in any age division, category and subject.
• Qualifying winners from each city in every age division, category and subject will be eligible to compete in the finals at Nationals.
• Teachers will be responsible for producing birth certifcates to verify age should a challenge or questions arise.
• All routines must be age appropriate and suitable for family viewing. Inappropriate numbers may be disqualified or receive point deductions.
• Choreography may be teacher’s own, original, or any other.
Video Wrist Bands
Two video Wrist Bands will be available to each studio for the purchase price of $30 each to video tape your studio competition numbers. These wrist bands will allow access to the technical riser which will be elevated in the back of the ballroom to record your studio performances only during competition. Video Wrist Bands may not be available at some Conventions.
Awards
1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded in each age division, category and subject in each city. Every number scoring enough points for first place will be awarded a first place trophy. 2nd and 3rd place trophies will also be awarded according to points earned. These StarMaker Competition trophies will be given immediately following competition on Saturday night.
Special Awards
There will be a Special Awards Ceremony on Sunday from 2:30 - 3:00 pm. During this time the following presentations will be made:
1. High Score Trophy from Saturday night
2. Judges’ Choice Trophy from Saturday night
3. Mr. and Miss StarMaker Trophies in each age division
4. Special Student Recognition Awards
5. Marjorie Perry Teacher Spirit Award
National Finals
Thousands of dollars in cash prizes, scholarships and trophies will be awarded in the finals at the June 2009 National Finals in Myrtle Beach. All first place winners or the two top scores (80 and above point averages) in each age division, category and subject from each regional city will qualify for the finals and can compete for cash prizes. There will be no preliminary competitions at the 2009 National Finals. Competition numbers will need to qualify at one of our Regional cities to compete.

• Registering Online - Teachers may register students for all conventions and competitions online at www.DanceMakersinc.com. Checks or credit cards may be used if registering online, but checks must be received by the cut-off date. When paying by check, you must call the office for directions. (Please refer to the DISCOUNT CUT-OFF DATE in tour date section.)
• If Registering by Mail or Fax - There will be a $50 processing fee. Teachers entering students in competition must use the official DanceMakers entry form or exact copy of one.
• All registration forms must be completed in full and signed or entry will not be accepted.
• All contestants, teachers, and observers must be pre- registered for the convention.
• Competition fees and convention fees must be submitted at the same time.
• If sending a check, only one check is necessary for payment for workshop and competition.
No entries will be accepted without payment or after deadline.
Early Bird Registration
You can avoid the Saturday morning rush and pick up registration in our Friday night cities 5 - 6 pm.
